Maxxus Saunas are constructed of Canadian Reforested Red Cedar that emits a natural aroma to enhance your sauna experience. This sauna also features are newest Full Spectrum heating technology, floor heater, MP3 Aux and Bluetooth capability, privacy glass and Chromotherapy Lighting.

Maxxus Full Spectrum Saunas used infrared wave to penetrate into your body tissue and dissolve harmful substances accumulated in your body. Infrared rays vitalize your cells and metabolism. With Full Spectrum, you will receive health benefits at various levels of Infrared – NEAR, MID and FAR. FAR Infrared penetrates the deepest into the tissue to break down toxins while NEAR generates the most heat to your body. FAR Infrared has the longest wavelength and penetrates the deepest in to the body tissue reaching the adipose tissue (fatty tissue) and activating the sweat glands. The sweat glands are one of the only mechanisms that the body has to eliminate toxins. MID Infrared penetrates the body tissue leading to increased blood flow and circulation and reduces muscle and joint pain. NEAR Infrared has a lower micron level and penetrates the epidermis layer of the skin leading to improved cell health, renewal of skin, tissue growth, and inflammation reduction. With the combination of NEAR, MID, and FAR – the experienced health benefits can range from lowered blood pressure and increased blood circulation to sweating out heavy metals and toxins from the body resulting in a healthier lifestyle.

Can using a sauna make you faster? By Andy Baxter author of "Racing Yesterday" and "The Exercise Prescription"

Athletes are, by nature and definition, a competitive bunch; always looking for an edge. And the more we adapt and evolve to our training inputs the more finite our improvements become.

As an athlete I’ve been poked and prodded and measured and compared and tested in the gym, on the water, in the lab and points between. As a coach, trainer and medical exercise specialist I have poked and prodded and measured and compared and tested others in the name of smart training and athletic performance.

Data collection is right up my alley. Measurable improvements in strength, power, aerobic endurance, vo2 max, heart rate recovery, changes in body composition, blood plasma volume, blood lactate concentrations, etc. are my bread and butter. Mostly butter though, not much bread these days. So when offered the chance to incorporate hyperthermic (sauna) conditioning into my training and record the outcomes I was happy to Guinea pig the idea.

Hyperthermic conditioning benefits

Scientist Dr Rhonda Patrick tells us that regular sauna use can improve athletic endurance, prevent atrophy during muscle disuse, improve insulin sensitivity, increase neurogenesis and increase longevity. Heat acclimation increases blood flow to the muscles and the heart, at the same time boosting blood plasma volume. It promotes net protein synthesis and muscle hypertrophy by combating oxidative stress associated with exercise and boosting growth hormone levels. Hyperthermic conditioning produces Heat Shock Proteins, responsible for maintaining and repairing the structural integrity of normal proteins. It also promotes the protein FOX03 which enhances gene expressions related to longevity (telomere length), as well as seeking out and repairing damaged DNA such as tumors which lead to cancer.

The idea is this; add post workout sauna sessions, 22 minutes per day at 111 degrees, every day for one month from 11/15 to 12/15.

Because there is substantial scientific study on the subject I am not going to try to reinvent that wheel. Rather, I will report to you my findings as they relate to subjective and objective experience. Since I already have a documented and consistent training history, the only thing that will change is the addition of the hyperthermic element. The idea is this; add post workout sauna sessions, 22 minutes per day at 111 degrees, every day for one month from 11/15 to 12/15. Why 22 minutes and why 111 degrees? Well, because it just worked out that way.

The objective stuff

5 minute ergometer tests to measure power output in watts, heart rate and one and two minute heart rate recovery (HRR) – As a competitive rower of 25 years I have more than the Gladwellian requisite 10,000 hours on the Erg to keep my constants constant and my variables variable. That makes this test a no brainer in terms of consistency and replicability.

Body composition

Body weight, body water (TBW), body fat (TBF), muscle mass (TMM). Accurate, apples to apples comparison of these factors requires that the total body water be consistent. Inconsistent TBW will affect body fat and muscle mass numbers and make for poor comparison. That being said, I like to see my numbers as follows;

TBW 58%. Below 57 I feel dehydrated and do not perform well. TBF 10-12%. Especially when in winter gain mode, if I am gaining muscle while keeping in that range I know my training and diet are on track. If I go passed 12.0% it’s a red light for me to tweak some things, generally training volume, diet and recovery.

TMM 85%. This number, like the numbers above, has proven itself to work for me time and time again. When I drop below 85% I feel weak and don’t handle my training volume well. Over 86% I feel slow and lethargic. But that’s just me. Your numbers may vary.

Strength measured in traditional power lifts (bench, dead lift, squat)- These get peppered throughout my training, usually as 5×5’s or in pyramid format 5,5,3,2,1.

The subjective stuff

Strength endurance for HIIT style circuit workouts
Energy and mood
Training notes
Pain or absence thereof
Recovery

So there we have it, and this is how it went

The first week was uneventful. Workouts were fine, sauna was warm. Ho hum. Routine. For the first six days that is how it went. But then, on the seventh day, multiple changes occurred.

On the seventh day I noted that my endurance and strength were up for my morning circuit workout, which was 6x clean and press, farmer carry and overhead plate carry. Noted as in notable, as in I wrote it down; notable. The second thing that happened was during my sauna; I began to sweat. Profusely. Buckets. This is a significant shift as sweating is our most efficient and effective thermoregulator and mine was finding its overdrive.

On the eighth day (22nd) my erg piece showed marked changes in wattage output, working heart rate and heart rate recovery. Power was up 25 watts while working heart rate was down four beats. One and two minute heart rate recovery were up 12 and 19 beats respectively.

Squat and bench pyramids were also up. They were confidence inspiring and pain free. Shoulders, back and knees held up fine.I had also gained 2.8 pounds while adhering to my 85% muscle mass rule (85.17% to be exact).

Clearly there was a shift taking place during days seven and eight. I also noted that on the ninth day (23rd) I was moderately dehydrated, so I upped my water intake. Over the course of the second week my working heart rate and heart rate recovery numbers stabilized while my power output continued to increase. Muscle mass was at 85.36%.

Week three saw tangible strength gains with multiple PR’s in bench press and squat.

Week three saw tangible strength gains with multiple PR’s in bench press and squat. While there was no high number PR for dead lift, there was a monumental subjective PR; I had no pain! Historically I equated dead lift with back pain. For me dead lift day brought with it the harbinger of debilitating back pain the following day. That was not happening!

My notations through weeks three and four were filled with exclamations like, “new PR!”, “awesome!”, “good one, go heavy!” and “felt great!”. My energy was great, my mood was great, I was fired up!

So here are the final numbers after one month of hyperthermic conditioning coupled with consistent training –

Erg score

13.3% wattage increase at same Heart Rate
33.3% one minute Heart Rate Recovery improvement
51.2% two minute HRR improvement
4.6 pound body weight increase at 84.995% muscle mass.
Personal Records in bench press and squat

Those are real, measurable improvements that I can bank on; I’m sold and will continue to use the sauna as an integral tool in my training. Unlike many other training modalities, It is also quite pleasant and provides a peaceful, meditative respite. As an athlete/data numbers geek these numbers are a big deal. Considering the myriad other health benefits, I think they should be a big deal for everyone.

Golden Designs Near Zero EMF Far Infrared Sauna by Dr. Kohlstadt

In my professional opinion low electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are especially important! We used a triaxial EMF tester to confirm the levels inside the sauna, and indeed they were very low – about 1.5 milligaus when touching the heating elements, and about 6 inches away it was near zero. That’s acceptable.

Additionally, 23&Me genetic testing highlights the importance of a low EMF sauna, because some of the genes which make us sensitive to EMFs are known and demonstrate genetic variants. This means that some of our patients are more susceptible to EMFs and can even perceive/feel EMF’s. So only by avoiding EMFs can these patients fully receive the detoxifying benefits of a sauna.

It appears there are not perceptible toxins used in the construction, which was important to me. Be sure to have 2 very strong persons to assemble. Printed instructions are in need of clarification for assembly, but it’s manageable. Watching the online assembly videos is helpful.

Overall I’m very pleased. My opinion of the 2 person sauna based on quality and value is quite good, especially at the entry-level price point making this sauna affordable for my patients who I recommend it to.

Thanks again for your product – I personally enjoy using its for healthful benefits.

Golden Designs Near Zero EMF Far Infrared Sauna By Josh Crosby

Dear Golden Designs,

I recently purchased the 3 person corner unit Near Zero EMF infrared sauna (specifically GDI-6365-01 Near Zero EMF Far Infrared Sauna) and love it! I have spent years researching the benefits of infrared and the different makes/models on the market and so happy with my choice. I have the perfect fit for my needs and felt the benefits even within the first few sessions using my Golden Designs sauna. It heats up quickly and I have sweat literally coming out of every pore in 10-15 minutes.

As a former ultra-endurance athlete (Ironman, adventure racing) I have put some miles on my body. I still am very active with my fitness and racing life and I find that the sauna helps me not only recover from my current weekly workouts, but also prepares my muscles and joints for them. I warm-up quickly and feel stronger throughout my workout. After a tough run or row, I wake up the next morning with less soreness than I usually would expect. Also, with two little ones in the house I have managed this Fall to avoid the colds brought home from school. Perhaps, I can’t directly give the sauna all the credit, but my immune system feels stronger and ready to fight.

In terms of the product and company specifically, I have had the best experience. From the ordering to the delivery process, I couldn’t be more pleased. All involved were super professional and on-time. The packing job was done so well with not a scratch on any part. Putting together was simple and clear. Yes, it takes two, but goes by quickly and is ready to use immediately once assembled. The construction was far more durable/solid than I expected due to my experience with other brands. Oh, be sure you get the correct plug setting/amperage for your unit prior to arrival. That delayed me a day or two. The sound system and mood lighting is fantastic and makes your little oasis come alive. I have this currently in the corner of my office and often read or do a call or two while in there. Yes, meditating in there would be better for me I know!

My research taught me what to look for in an infrared sauna and this one has it all: low EMF, carbon panels on all sides and by feet and calves, ability to heat to 130 or above, a simple operating panel and sound system. I wanted something that could be roomy enough for my wife and me, but could fit in the corner of my office. I also loved the prices on these units over other brands.

So as you can tell I am a huge fan of my Low EMF Golden Designs infrared sauna and look forward to years of it bringing me good health and help in achieving my future athletic goals.

NPR (National Public Radio) just published a wonderful piece on the benefits of saunas

“Clearly time in the sauna is time well spent.”

NPR (National Public Radio) just published a wonderful piece on the benefits of saunas and a comparison between traditional stream/hot saunas and infrared saunas. Our customers have been telling us for years that an infrared sauna allows them to enjoy the benefits of a sauna without needing to be in a very high heat environment – in the author’s words:

While traditional saunas heat up the surrounding air to about 185 degrees, which in turn heats you, infrared saunas (also called far-infrared saunas) only reach about 140 degrees, according to a 2009 review of evidence on infrared saunas and cardiovascular health. But the infrared rays penetrate more deeply into the body, which means you start sweating at a lower temperature than in a traditional sauna. That produces a lighter demand on the cardiovascular system, similar to moderate walking, according to the review, and so might benefit people who are sedentary for medical reasons. It’s also good for people who like the idea of a sauna, but find the high heat unpleasant.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Infrared Rays?

Infrared is the band of light we perceive as heat. We cannot see this band of light with the naked eye, but we can feel this type of light in the form of heat. Our sun produces most of its energy output in the infrared segment of the spectrum. Infrared rays heat your body without having to heat the air in-between. This process is called conversion.

The infrared is divided into 3 segments by wavelengths measured in microns: near infrared: 0.76-1.5 microns; middle infrared: 1.5-5.6 microns; and far infrared: 5.6-1000 microns. Among these segments, only far infrared penetrates organic substances such as the human body two to three inches so that the warming effect is very uniform.

Are infrared rays safe?

Because infrared rays are part of sunlight, they are not only safe but also highly beneficial to our bodies on a cellular level. Health professionals have used infrared heat lamps for decades to treat muscle and joint problems. In hospital baby care units, incubators are often equipped with infrared heating systems to keep newborn babies warm.

How it works

Infrared Saunas differ from traditional saunas in that they use infrared radiant energy to directly penetrate into the body's tissue to produce perspiration.

Traditional saunas use steam to heat the air inside the sauna, which then heats your body until you begin to perspire. In order for this to be effective, temperatures would need to reach in the upwards of 190 degrees Fahrenheit. Infrared saunas only need a temperature of up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit to obtain the same effect. This lower temperature makes the environment more tolerable and allows you to breathe easier.

Benefits

Because infrared rays penetrate the body through conversion, there is a deep heating effect in both the muscle tissues and internal organs without putting too much burden on the heart.

Our body reacts to the increased heating through the natural cooling process of perspiring. Through the perspiration process, acid and waste residue like toxins, sodium, alcohol, nicotine, cholesterol and the potentially carcinogenic heavy metals are removed from the cells (especially zinc, lead, nickel, cadmium, etc). The pores of our skin open and discharge waste products shedding any old skin cells leaving the skin glowing and clean, with improved tone, elasticity, texture, and color.

Over the last 25 years, Japanese and Chinese researchers and clinicians have completed extensive research on infrared treatments and have reported many provocative findings. In Japan, there is an "infrared society" composed of medical doctors and physical therapists dedicated to furthering infrared research. Their findings support the health benefits of infrared therapy as a method of healing.

Benefits include, but are not limited to:

  • Pain relief from
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Relaxing muscle spasms
  • Increasing blood circulation
  • Cardiovascular conditioning
  • Clears rashes, acne
  • Reduces cellulite
  • Removes toxins and mineral waste
  • Reduces stress and fatigue
  • Enhances skin tone

Sauna Maintenance

Since infrared saunas do not require hot rocks, water, or steam to operate, they require very little maintenance. You can simply wipe it down with water and a soft clean cloth. Do not use any cleaning chemicals as they can be absorbed into the wood and be released into your sauna during use.

DISCLAIMER

The infrared rays emitted by your sauna are reported to offer a wide range of possible therapeutic benefits based on research completed over the last 25 years from all around the world. These benefits are presented for reference purposes only and no implication of infrared saunas creating a cure for or treating any disease is implied nor should it be inferred. If you have a health condition, are taking prescription drugs, or have acute joint injuries, please consult your physician before starting infrared therapy. Persons with surgical implants (metal pins and rods, artificial joints, silicone, or other types of surgical implants) typically do not experience any adverse effects, but should also consult their physician or surgeon before starting infrared therapy.

CAUTION: Exit sauna immediately if you feel dizzy, sleepy, or any discomfort.

How to use an Infrared Sauna?

Using an infrared sauna is easier than you think. There are simple guidelines you can follow to increase overall benefits from your sauna sessions. As you become more familiar and comfortable with your infrared sauna, you can adjust these guidelines to fit your personal needs. Always remember to drink plenty of fluids prior to, during, and after your sauna session. Begin by preheating your infrared sauna to a desired temperature. This can take anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes depending on the size of your sauna and the ambient temperature. The most common temperatures for beginners will be in the range of 110° F to 118° F. Experiment within this range to find what is comfortable for you. Always remember to drink plenty of fluids prior to, during, and after your sauna session to replenish all the fluid lost.

While you are waiting for your sauna to preheat, there are a few ways you can prepare for your sauna session. Taking a warm bath or shower to remove substances from the skin or doing some light physical exercises will prepare your body for the sauna session. These activities will shorten the amount of time it will take for your body to begin perspiring once you enter the sauna.

Now you are ready to begin your session. Start slowly with one or two sauna session(s) per week. When entering the sauna, wear minimal clothing since infrared rays have difficulty penetrating clothing. Take at least two dry, clean towels inside the sauna with you, one to sit on and the other to wipe away perspiration. Adjust the timer to reflect a 15 to 20 minute session. Once you begin building a tolerance for the heat, you can gradually increase the time with future sessions.

Use your session to relax, meditate, and escape from your everyday stress. Enjoy the benefits of your infrared sauna as you detox your body through perspiration. Massage areas of the body that ache to relieve sore and tense muscles. From time to time, wipe off the excess perspiration to allow for more intense sweating. If at any time you feel dizzy, nauseous, or any discomfort, exit the sauna immediately.

After your sauna session is over, turn the power off and sit in the sauna with the door ajar for about 10 minutes and let your body adjust to the cooler air temperature. Although the sauna heat emitters are turned off, your body will still continue to perspire. Once your body has cooled down, you can exit the sauna. Rest at least 20 minutes before taking a warm shower to rinse off the perspiration from your body.

What is EMF?

Electric and magnetic fields are present wherever electricity flows – around appliances and power lines, and in offices, schools and homes.

EMF is all around us!

Electric and magnetic fields are present wherever electricity flows – around appliances and power lines, and in offices, schools and homes. Many researchers believe that if there is a risk of adverse health effects from usual residential exposures to EMF, it is probably just at the detection limit of human health studies; nonetheless, the possible risk warrants further investigation. The varying results from epidemiological studies, which looked at estimated EMF exposures and childhood leukemia, are consistent with a weak link. Laboratory studies and studies investigating a possible mechanism for health effects (mechanistic studies) provide little or no evidence to support this weak link.

The results from many research studies have been evaluated by international, national and California EFM research programs to find out if EMF poses any health risk. Given the uncertainty of the issue, the medical and scientific communities have been unable to determine that usual residential exposures to EMF cause health effects or to be either safe or harmful. These conclusions remain unchanged by recent studies. What is a Full Spectrum Sauna?

Near Mid Far Infrared Technology

Golden Designs Full Spectrum Saunas

Golden Designs, Inc. introduces their Reserve Edition line of Full Spectrum Carbon PureTech Near Zero Low EMF Infrared sauna products. These cutting-edge saunas are designed with advanced technology that not only uses infrared heat energy to directly penetrate into the body’s tissue to promote detoxification, but they do so safely with our Carbon PureTech Near Zero Low EMF FAR Infrared Heat Emitter Panels. These environmentally-friendly, energy efficient FAR infrared saunas provide a healthy solution to detox and fitness. With the optional NEAR Infrared Heaters offered on the Reserve Edition line, the sauna becomes Full Spectrum. With Full Spectrum, you will receive the overall health benefits of all the NEAR, MID, and FAR infrared wavelengths.

Full Spectrum is a safe way to rid the body of toxins, rejuvenate skin, promote cell regeneration, possibly lose weight, and more. In addition, FAR Infrared technology enhances the healing benefits by effectively stimulating the metabolic activity within the body. This, in turn, initiates the release of stored toxins through perspiration. Perspiration is critical in the detox setting because it allows the body to eliminate unwanted and unnecessary toxins. With NEAR Infrared, the micron level is lower resulting in a shorter wavelength which penetrates the epidermis layer of the skin improving cell health, tissue growth and wound healing.

Health Benefits and Remedies

Golden Designs Family of Infrared Saunas is completely safe and produces the same far infrared heat generated by the sun. Far infrared heat is essential for all living things to have optimum health. The radiant heat from our Low EMF FAR Infrared Saunas penetrate deeply into your joints, muscles, and tissues, while also speeding up the oxygen flow and increasing circulation. Using our Low EMF FAR Infrared Saunas help to remove impurities from your cells, specifically the ones inside your fat where your body stores waste and harmful toxins, such as cholesterol and heavy metals. When used properly, our Low EMF FAR Infrared Saunas will provide natural pain relief and promote a lifetime full of health benefits.

Infrared technology has seen rapid growth within the Health and Wellness Industry and has silently catapulted the sauna market. The safe and harmless infrared wavelengths of the Electromagnetic Spectrum allow our sauna products to heal the body. Penetrating deep into the skin while increasing circulation, the FAR infrared energy is most beneficial in eliminating harmful toxins from the body. And with NEAR infrared energy, it is most effective in rejuvenating the skin and improving circulation.
