What Exactly Is A Steam Shower?

A steam shower heats water until it vaporizes and then pumps that delicious steam into an enclosed area for your enjoyment. It’s a simple idea—but doing it efficiently, reliably, and beautifully is an art and a science that we’ve spent decades mastering. 	Generator The steam room generator powers your steam system by boiling water. It’s about the size of a briefcase, though the exact size varies based on your shower’s construction. It can be installed up to 60 ft away in a closet, vanity, attic, or basement - basically any dry, heated location - with 12 inches of space around the generator for ventilation.
	Control Installed inside the shower and away from the direct steam flow, the control lets you manage your steam session. You can choose to control everything from temperature and duration to music, lighting, and aromatherapy.
	Steamhead This is where the steam is released. It's installed on the shower wall, about 6-12 inches above the floor and opposite the seating area.
	Plumbing and Power Your system will run on low-voltage household electric power (208v or 240v). You will need a water line to the steam bath generator, a steam line from generator to shower, and a drain line.

Size We offer different generators for different size showers. High ceilings or particularly large spaces will require a larger steam room generator. Our Virtual Spa tool can help you figure out what you need​.

Materials Most shower enclosures use one or more of these materials: tile, natural stone, acrylic, fiberglass, or composites. Each material has different heat retention properties, and this will be a factor in the generator you choose.

Construction Your shower must be enclosed, insulated, and sealed. Windows, if any, should be double-paned. If you’re tiling your shower, be aware that larger tiles are friendlier to steam because they collect less condensation.

Ventilation There should be no heating, venting or air-conditioning components inside the steam room. All light fixtures must be vapor-sealed.

It’s an automatic self-cleaning system that promotes a long, healthy life for steam generators by automatically flushing the generator of sediment two hours after every steambath.

We automate everything in the background, so no work is needed after every steam shower session. AutoFlush assures that you get clean steam every time.

The optional AutoFlush System feature automatically drains the MrSteam system following each use. A time delay allows the water to cool down (about two hours) before it drains by gravity for a safe and gentle operation.

Sitting under our e-SERIES Generators, the Condensation Pan protects from potential water escape. Just locate the condensation pan on a solid level surface and place the steam generator inside the condensation pan. Ensure the steam generator is level as the condensation pan drains by gravity.

Mr.Steam strongly recommends the use of a condensation pan in the unlikely event of a plumbing leak.

Limited Lifetime Warranty for MrSteam Residential Steambath Generator Products Installed in the United States or Canada.

"Mr.Steam® warrants that every Mr.Steam® Residential Steambath Generator (“Generator”) will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for its lifetime. Mr.Steam® will repair or replace (at its option) a Generator that fails to conform to this warranty. If the warranty claim is made within two years from the date of purchase of the Generator, Mr.Steam® will provide free in-home warranty service, parts, and labor. If the warranty claim is made after two years from the date of purchase of the Generator, Mr.Steam® will provide a lifetime warranty on parts.

Mr.Steam will repair or replace (at its option) Mr.Steam Controls and Accessories if they fail to conform to this limited warranty. All warranty work will be performed without charge when the Mr.Steam Control and Accessory are returned to the location designated by Mr.Steam within 2 years of the date of purchase. Does My Existing Tub/Shower Need To Be Modified?   Most do, while others may not need to be. All have to be water tight on all walls and the ceiling. A licensed contractor who is familiar with steam can help you make that happen. We do recommend ceiling heights be no higher than 8’. You only need to tile and water seal the portion of the ceiling that will be directly exposed to the steam (inside the steam shower). The primary purpose is to retain heat and prevent moisture from escaping the shower enclosure.

What Determines The Size Of A Mrsteam Steam Shower Generator?   The size of your shower enclosure, in total cubic feet, along with finish material, will determine which MrSteam generator you will need. The larger the space, the more steam you need to fill it. And the more steam you need, the larger the generator needs to be. You may be reconfiguring a current shower for steam or constructing an entirely new space – large or small. We do recommend that your shower enclosure not be smaller than 3’ x 3’ x 7’. That way you have enough space to stand or sit a safe distance from the steam head. In all cases, there are a few criteria to take into account when selecting the right generator size: The steam shower dimensions: length, width, height. Multiply each to determine your total room volume in cubic feet. The materials for the shower walls and ceiling each have different heat retention properties, and this will be a factor in the generator you choose
